Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat conditions like chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps, or masses within the sinuses. Unlike traditional open surgery, FESS is performed with the aid of a thin endoscope inserted through the nostrils. This allows for the enlargement of the sinuses' natural drainage pathways, removal of inflamed tissues, and restoration of healthy sinus function. It is a modern technique offering high precision and faster recovery.
FESS is generally suitable for patients who do not respond to conservative treatments (medication, sprays) or have structural issues:
FESS can be combined with Septoplasty (Deviation Correction) and Turbinate Reduction in the same session to eliminate nasal obstruction. This maximizes both the patient's sinus and overall breathing quality.

Most of the time, classic packing is not used. Instead, gel-form dissolvable packing or silicone splints, which aid in the healthy healing of the sinuses and are easily removable, are preferred.
FESS significantly reduces the risk of sinusitis recurrence and improves treatment success by permanently opening the sinus drainage pathways. The success rate is very high, but post-operative follow-up and care are important to prevent chronic sinusitis from recurring.
Thanks to the minimally invasive nature of the surgery, patients with desk jobs can usually return to work after 3-5 days. It is recommended to wait approximately 2 weeks for heavy physical activity and sports.
